Reading your Business DNA fingerprint: a practical guide
Eight dimensions, one fingerprint. What each axis means, which are leading vs lagging indicators, and the three you should look at every Monday.
Your Business DNA fingerprint is eight axes: demand, brand, response, operations, automation, reputation, SEO and retention. Together they form a shape — the shape is the fingerprint. Two businesses with the same revenue can have wildly different fingerprints, which is why generic advice rarely works.
Leading vs lagging axes
Demand, brand, response and SEO are leading indicators — they move first and the others follow. Operations, automation, reputation and retention are lagging — they reflect what you've been doing for the past quarter. The mistake most owners make is to optimise the lagging axes; the leverage is on the leading ones.
The Monday three
Every Monday, look at three numbers: demand trend (is enquiry volume rising or falling), response time (median minutes to first reply) and one of your weak axes from last quarter's scan. Everything else is monthly. This habit replaces the dashboard-staring most owners do.
The fingerprint is not a score, it is a map. Read it that way and the next twelve weeks plan themselves.
More from the operating layer.
Our cohort data of 4,200 UK SMEs shows a widening gap between digitally-equipped operators and the rest, and it widens faster than most owners expect.
CRM, payments, scheduling, reviews, finance, automation, AI replies and a benchmark layer. We map the stack and the order to adopt it in.
Owners who treat AI as a chatbot bolt-on are missing the shift. The leaders route every operating decision through an AI loop, with humans on checkpoints.
